Online Book Club: The Book of Tea

Online Book Club: The Book of Tea

Presented by San Antonio Museum of Art at Online/Virtual Space

“Teaism is a cult founded on the adoration of the beautiful among the sordid facts of everyday existence. It inculcates purity and harmony, the mystery of mutual charity, the romanticism of the social order. It is essentially a worship of the Imperfect, as it is a tender attempt to accomplish something possible in this impossible thing we know as life.”

—Okakura Kakuzō

Bring in the new year with a “tea-ful” conversation at SAMA’s second book club. For this installment, we will read The Book of Tea, written in 1906 by Japanese scholar and artist, Okakura Kakuzō. This short essay argues how “teaism” influenced the beauty and simplicity of Japanese culture and aesthetics.

Join us for a special collection presentation with Emily Sano, Curator of Asian Art, as well as a tea demonstration and guide with SnugTea.

Don’t forget to visit our Museum Shop to purchase one of our bundles including matcha tea, a matcha whisk, and selected tea pouches.
