Between Yesterday & Tomorrow Artist Talk

Please join the Department of Arts & Culture for an Artist Talk on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 6pm in our Culture Commons Gallery. Between Yesterday and Tomorrow curator, Barbara Felix will be in conversation with five artists from the exhibition – Alain Gakwaya, Deborah Harris, Alethia Jones, Theresa Newsome, and Calvin Pressley. In this talk, the artists will discuss unique stories about their art, influences, and experiences. Audience Q&A to follow.

The exhibition showcases the multifaceted talents of seventeen San Antonio based Black artists with artworks including drawings, paintings, photography, mixed media, sculpture and quilting. Themes covered include Black history and identity, family dynamics, social connections, spirituality, and resilience. The exhibit will remain installed through November 17, 2023. Culture Commons Gallery is free and open to the public Wed-Fri from 11AM-4PM.  Additional upcoming ancillary events include an evening of Drag Performances in celebration of Pride Month, a film night, and a dance performance.
